VOLLEYBALL SIGNS MORGAN STANLEY AND COURTNEY DIETRICH
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State volleyball head coach Ruben Volta announced today that middle blocker Courtney Dietrich (Chelan, Wash.) and outside hitter Morgan Stanley (Parker, Colo.) have signed National Letters of Intent, and will enroll at Sacramento State next fall.
A 6-foot-1 native of Chelan, Wash., Dietrich just concluded her senior season at Washington’s Chelan High School. A four-year varsity starter in volleyball, basketball and softball, Dietrich helped lead the Chelan volleyball team to four consecutive 1A Caribou Trail League championships (2009-12), three straight district titles (2009-11) and a state championship in 2010. She was named the league’ player of the year during both her junior and senior seasons, and was selected first team all-state in 2011. Dietrich was nominated as the 2012 North Central Washington Female Athlete of the Year, and will likely garner some form of all-state accolade when selections are made in December. In 2010, she was a first team all-conference selection and named the team’s most improved player. She also received all-league honors in both basketball and softball during her junior season with those sports. Dietrich has played club ball for Columbia Juniors of Kennewick, Wash., the past three years.
“I really like Courtney’s athleticism and her strength in the middle,” Volta said. “She has a really nice arm swing and I anticipate her making an impact for us right away.”
A 5-foot-11 native of Parker, Colo., Stanley just concluded her senior season at Colorado’s Chaparral High School where she helped the team to a four-year combined record of 108-13 overall and 43-2 in the 5A Continental League. That included a pair of state championships in 2010 and 2011, not to mention a third-place finish in state this season (the 2011 squad also finished fifth in the nation). As a senior, she was named first team all-league and selected to play in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports (CCGS) All-State match after averaging 4.4 kills, 2.5 digs, 0.5 blocks and 0.4 aces per set. Stanley had double-figure kills in all but three matches, including 35 kills against Legend High School in the first round of the state tournament. Her overall total of 401 kills were the second best mark in the state. She was also a four-year member of the Chaparrall HS Athletic Honor Roll. Stanley has played the past three years for the Colorado Juniors club team that just had 10 of its players sign Div. I scholarships.
“Morgan is a six-rotation outside hitter who has experience on the right side as well,” Volta said. “She plays for highly competitive club and high school teams, and has a lot of experience playing the game at a high level.”
