VOLLEYBALL ADDS NEW MEXICO STATE TRANSFER KILEY MANSFIELD

1/18/2012

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Head volleyball coach Ruben Volta added another student-athlete to the team’s 2012 recruiting class when he announced that New Mexico State’s Kiley Mansfield will transfer to Sacramento State. Mansfield, who has three years of eligibility remaining, will enroll this spring.

A 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Chico, Calif., Mansfield will have the opportunity to compete for the vacated starting spot that was previously held by two-time all-conference selection Eryn Kirby.

Mansfield spent her freshman season (2011) at New Mexico State where she appeared in 16 matches, and 22 sets, for an Aggies squad that went 23-10 overall and 10-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. She posted averages of 0.50 kills and 0.14 digs per set, and had just one reception error all season.

“Kiley is an athletic player who has nice size and a good arm swing,” Volta said. “I like her competitiveness and toughness on the court, and she will provide instant offense on either the right or left side.”

Mansfield, who was recruited by Sacramento State as a prep, attended Pleasant Valley High School in Chico. She was a first team all-league and all-section choice as well as team MVP during her junior and senior seasons after helping the Vikings to league and section titles both years. As a senior (2010), she finished first in the state with 684 kills, and third in the state with an average of 6.3 kills per set. Mansfield also had 57 aces and 362 digs that season. In addition, she was an all-league and all-section selection with both the basketball and softball teams during her senior year at Pleasant Valley.

Mansfield played club volleyball for Redding’s Shasta Creations, the same club that produced former Sacramento State standouts Lindsay HauptJennifer Ferguson and Desiree Hoyum.

Mansfield will join a Sacramento State squad that finished the 2011 season with a 17-15 overall record and a third-place finishing 10-6 mark in the Big Sky Conference. The Hornets are losing five senior starters from that team, comprised of Kirby, middle blockers Kelsey Elston and Maddison Thivierge, setter Anna Schoener and libero Breanne Menees.

Mansfield joins outside hitters Lauren Aikels (Westview High School) and Sloan Lovett (Durango High School) as the three players that have signed with Sacramento State for the 2012 season. Lovett and Aikels were both signed during the early signing period.
