SIX GYMNASTS EARN NATIONAL ACADEMIC HONOR
8/6/2009
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Six members of the Sacramento State gymnastics team were named to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACG/W) Scholastic All-America team.
The Hornets were represented by Chantal Angyal, Ashlei Baker, Amanda Blauvelt, Marina Borisova, Cayla Boyce and Eryn Stubblefield. Blauvelt and Stubblefield each earned the honor for the second time in as many years.
To be eligible for the NACG/W Scholastic All-America team a student-athlete had to have a 3.5 grade point average during the 2008-09 school year.
"It's very exciting to have this many members of our team do so well academically," Sacramento State head coach Kim Hughes said. "We've now had six athletes on this team in four of the last five years."
Earlier this season, Sacramento State placed eight student-athletes on the Western Athletic Conference all-academic team. Those honorees were comprised of Blauvelt, Borisova, Boyce, Jasmine Lipka, Lizzy Norvell, Mary Peck, Eryn Stubblefield and Traci Takeda.
The Hornets open the 2010 season on Jan. 16 against Boise State and San Jose State in a three-team meet which will take place in Reno, Nev. The team's first home meet will come against UC Davis and Seattle Pacific on Jan. 22.
