Jason Borchin Title: Assistant Coach Experience: 3rd Year Alma Mater: Pacific, '10 Email: jborchin@saclink.csus.edu Bio: After spending the 2007 season as a volunteer assistant with the team and playing two years for the Sacramento State men’s volleyball squad, Jason Borchin will enter his third year as a full-time assistant in 2012. Borchin, who played for Sacramento State in 2006 and 2007, took over for longtime assistant Weidi Zhang, who retired in May of 2010. Last season, Sacramento State went 17-15 overall, including a 10-6 record and third place finish in the conference. The Hornets ranked among the top half of all Div. I teams in the final RPI report, and finished the year ranked ninth in the nation in digs per set (18.39) and 13th in blocks per set (2.76). In fact, Sacramento State was the only team to rank among the nation’s top 35 squads in both of those categories. Three Hornets received all-conference accolades, and the team concluded the year by winning 12 of its final 18 matches. That included a six-match winning streak from Sept. 24-Oct. 8, the longest since the 2007 season. In 2010, the Hornets played without projected starters at setter and middle hitter all season. In addition, the roster averaged just 19 years of age and the team started four underclassmen in nearly every match. Despite the injuries, youth and relative inexperience, Sacramento State placed three players on the all-conference team, won 15 matches and completed the season with a 10-3 record at home. A graduate of Oakmont High School and a native of Roseville, Borchin has eight years of coaching experience, including numerous stops at the intercollegiate, high school and club levels. That includes his time as a volunteer assistant with the Hornet women’s team in 2007, when the squad went 29-8 while reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament and winning both the Big Sky Conference’s regular season and tournament titles. Borchin served as head coach for the Northern California Volleyball Club Boys 15s squad that played in the Junior Olympics during the summer of 2010. He was also head coach of the NCVC Boys 17s and 18s in 2007-08, the High Impact Girls 18s team in 2007, the NCVC Boys 15s in 2006-07, and the High Impact Girls 14s in 2005-06. As a player at Sacramento State, Borchin earned first team all-league honors and was the named the Hornets’ team MVP during his first season in 2006, and was a second team all-league selection in 2007. He then transferred to Pacific where he played in 86 matches over three seasons (2008-10). He was among the team’s top five players in kills every season, and finished his career with totals of 611 kills, 423 digs, 142 blocks and 59 aces. Borchin graduated from Pacific in May of 2010 with a degree in sports sciences.
