SACRAMENTO — Sacramento State Volleyball completed its incoming class when the program announced today that Christian Brothers High School's Caty Cordano and Vanden High School's Alona Walker will join the program for the upcoming season.

Cordano and Walker make up the fifth and sixth players that will be playing at Sacramento State as newcomers for the 2019 indoor season. They join Michelle Taynton who transferred from Seattle U prior to the spring beach season, Karlee Soderberg (Centennial Collegiate HS), Kalani Hayes (Clackamas HS) and Tiyanane Kamba-Griffin (Davis Senior HS). Cordano is a defensive specialist, Walker a rightside hitter.

The season begins at home on Aug. 30-31 when the Hornets host the two-day, four-team Sacramento State Invitational. The Hornets open with Canisius and CSU Bakersfield on the 30th before taking on Nevada on the 31st.

A 2019 graduate of Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento…played four years of volleyball and two seasons of lacrosse for the Falcons…in volleyball, she played her final three seasons on the varsity team…helped Christian Brothers to a Capital Athletic League championship each of her three years with the varsity team…was a first team all-league selection and team captain during her final two seasons…named the league's MVP as a junior…selected to play in the 2018 All-Star Optimist game after averaging 4.5 digs per set to go with season totals of 478 digs and 46 aces as a senior…helped the team to a Sac-Joaquin Section championship in 2016, and semifinal appearances in 2017 and 2018…the team reached the state championship in all three of those seasons, including a regional semifinal appearance in 2018.

A 2019 graduate of Vanden High School in Fairfield, Calif…played four years of varsity volleyball for the Vikings…named first team all-conference during each of her final three seasons…that includes being named the Solano County Athletic Conference MVP in 2016 as a sophomore…was a first team all-Monticello League selection and team captain of the 2018 squad that won the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section title and advanced to the Regional Finals at the state championship…that team finished 27-4 overall and 14-1 in league…during her four seasons, the Vikings combined for an 82-24 overall record and 53-5 mark in league play…finished her high school career with 492 kills, 294 blocks and a .327 hitting percentage…as a senior, she averaged 2.4 kills and 1.3 blocks per set to go along with a .367 hitting percentage…the Vikings finished first in league during each of her final three seasons.
