The Sacramento State volleyball squad (7-12) will play its final non-conference match of the season when the team travels to the Bay Area for a matchup with Santa Clara at 6 p.m.
Santa Clara is providing free live video and live stats via its website. The Broncos are 14-7 overall, but have dropped their last two matches. Santa Clara has played just three times all season at home (2-1), and tonight will mark the team's first home contest since a 3-1 victory over Pepperdine on Sept. 29.
After today's game, the Hornets jump back into Big Sky play for road matches at Portland State (Oct. 20) and Eastern Washington (Oct. 22) over the next week.
Sacramento State is coming off a 3-1 victory at Montana State on Saturday that saw the team save six set points (two in the third set, four in the fourth set) on the way to its first road win in Big Sky play.
The Hornets are 4-5 in non-conference this season, which includes wins over Boise State and Fresno State. Today will mark the first matchup out of league play since a 3-1 neutral-site loss to UC Davis on Sept. 8.
Sacramento State and Santa Clara are no strangers, as the teams have played each other 23 times since the Hornets made the jump to the Div. I ranks in 1991.
Overall, the Broncos own an 18-11 lead in the all-time series between the two teams, including an 8-3 record when playing in Santa Clara. In fact, Santa Clara's winning percentage against Sacramento State is tied for the third best all-time against the Hornets, trailing only Stanford (10-0) and Pacific (27-6), and tied with Fresno State (18-11).
The Hornets' match at Eastern Washington on Oct. 22 will mark the end of a season-long five-game road trip. Sacramento State will then embark upon a four-game homestand over a 10-day stretch from Oct. 25-Nov. 3.
