PULLMAN, Wash. - The No. 49 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team defeated a Pac-12 foe on Saturday, with a 5-2 victory against Washington State at the Simmelink Tennis Courts.
The Hornets (2-3) handed the Cougars (7-1) their first loss of the season and snapped their seven match winning streak. Washington State had not lost a singles or doubles match all season before falling to the Hornets.
Sacramento State started out strong by claiming the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Tatsiana Kapshai and Maria Meliuk each won their singles matches in straight sets while Rebeca Delgado and Sophie Lohscheidt needed three sets to claim their victories.
Up next for the Hornets is a doubleheader on Feb. 17. Sacramento State will play host to Portland State in its Big Sky Conference opener before heading down the causeway to battle rival UC Davis.
