Clarisse Baca's three-set victory at No. 4 singles clinched the win at Denver.
DENVER, Colo. - It came down to the final match of the day, but the No. 59 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team held on for a 4-3 victory at Denver on Saturday night at the Colorado Athletic Club Monaco.
The Hornets (14-9, 7-0 Big Sky) won the doubles point but needed the final singles match of the evening to clinch the match.
Sacramento State dominated at the top in singles play, with Tatsiana Kapshai and Rebeca Delgado each winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
Kapshai's match was the first to finish, but before Delgado claimed her match, Denver won at No. 3 and No. 5 singles.
The Hornets were up, 3-2, with two matches left when Denver's Steffi Rath won at No. 6 singles, tying the match score with only No. 4 singles remaining in play.
Senior Clarisse Baca lost the first set at No. 4, but rallied to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to give the Hornets their fifth straight victory.
Sacramento State closes out the 2012 regular season against Big Sky Conference foe Northern Colorado tomorrow. The Hornets play host to both the men's and women's tennis Big Sky Championships this year, from April 21-22, at Gold River Racquet Club.
