All three of Sacramento State's graduating seniors won on Thursday versus UCI.
GOLD RIVER, Calif. - In the final regular season home match of their careers, seniors Clarisse Baca, Tatsiana Kapshai and Maria Meliuk were all victorious and the No. 59 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team defeated No. 66 ranked UC Irvine, 5-1, on Thursday at the Spare Time Indoor TC.
The Hornets (13-9) and Anteaters (13-6) played singles first and Sacramento State clinched the victory with five wins. Doubles was not played.
Kapshai, who is now 35-21 in her career at singles, won 6-1, 6-4 over Kristina Smith at No. 1. Baca improved to 60-26 in her career with a 7-6(5), 7-5 win at No. 3 singles while Meliuk, 45-33 in her career, won 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(5) at No. 5 singles.
Sacramento State is on the road this weekend for its final two regular season matches. The Hornets play at Denver on Saturday before closing out their schedule with Big Sky Conference foe Northern Colorado on Sunday. Sacramento State has won an unprecedented 89 straight league matches.
Sacramento State is hosting the Big Sky Conference Tournament this year, on April 21-22, at the Gold River Racquet Club.
