WOMEN'S TENNIS LOSES NAIL-BITER AT LONG BEACH STATE

Maria Meliuk was nearly perfect in a win at No. 6 singles, but the Hornets lost at LBSU.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 55 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 thriller to No. 47 ranked Long Beach State on Thursday afternoon at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
The Hornets (8-6) lost the doubles point but won the at No. 6 and No. 4 singles to make the match interesting.
Long Beach State led 3-2 as Katharina Knoebl pushed her No. 5 singles match to a third set. However, the 49ers' Sarah Cantlay won the third set to give LBSU a 4-3 win. After the match was secure, LBSU's Laura Bernard retired at No. 3 singles.
Meliuk won in dominating fashion at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1 while Sophie Lohscheidt won a grinder, 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Rebeca Delgado and Tatsiana Kapshai won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4.
Up next for the Hornets is a match against Nevada at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in San Diego, Calif. Sacramento State stays in SoCal to play USD at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
