MELIUK, BACA FALL IN ITA NORTHWEST REGIONAL DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Maria Meliuk and Clarisse Baca advanced to the doubles title match at the ITA NW Regionals.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regionals at Stanford over the weekend in its final fall tournament of 2011 and two Hornets advanced to the doubles championships match.

The unseeded tandem of Clarisse Baca and Maria Meliuk defeated California's No. 2 seeded pair of Jana Juricova and Zsofia Susanyi, 8-3, in the semifinals on Monday afternoon but the pair lost, 8-4 to Stanford's Stacy C. Tan and Ellen Tsay in the title match on Tuesday morning. Baca and Meliuk defeated two top-5 seeded pairs among their four straight doubles wins en route to the finals.
