WOMEN'S TENNIS WINS FINAL HOME MATCH OF 2011 SEASON, 5-2 VERSUS DENVER

Sophie Lohscheidt's 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles clinched the Hornets' victory.
 

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The No. 50 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team prevailed, 5-2, over Denver on Senior Day in its final home match of the 2011 season on Friday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Raquet Club.

The Hornets improve to 13-8 on the season. They will now carry thier perfect 5-0  Big Sky Conference record into three straight league road matches - at Weber State, at Idaho State and at Portland State. Sacramento State has won 77 straight times against Big Sky opponents, including both regular season and conference tournament matches.

Denver falls to 7-12 with the loss.

The Hornets started strong, winning all three doubles matches by 8-1 scores. Clarisse Baca and Maria Meliuk's win at No. 2 doubles improved their record to a team-best 15-4 this spring.

In singles play, Denver was able to win at No. 1 and No. 6, but it wasn't enough as straight set wins by Meliuk and Baca gave the Hornets four team points and Sophie Lohscheidt's three-set win at No. 5 sealed the victory.

Baca and Lohscheidt have each won six straight singles matches.

It was Senior Day against Denver, and Sacramento State's lone senior, Milica Zivanovic, was honored before the match.
