WOMEN'S TENNIS CLOSES FALL SEASON AT ITA NORTHWEST REGIONALS

STANFORD, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s tennis team concluded its fall season Monday afternoon at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships held at Stanford University. Eight members of the team represented the Hornets at the tournament.
Junior Tatsiana Kapshai advanced to the round of 16 for the Hornets in singles play. Kapshai defeated opponents from Washington, Washington State and Fresno State before falling to Washington State’s Elisabeth Fournier in a 6-2, 6-3 loss. Fellow junior Clarisse Baca advanced to the round of 32 before falling to Washington’s Venis Chan in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5.
In doubles action, Kapshai paired with sophomore Rebeca Delgado to advance to the quarterfinals. The No. 3-seeded duo defeated pairs from Santa Clara and UC Davis before falling to Stanford’s No. 7-seeded Li and Stacey Tan, 8-6.

The Hornets will resume play in 2011 when the team competes at the Spring Kickoff Tournament from Jan. 28-29. The first dual match for the Hornets will be against Nevada on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
