DELGADO AND KAPSHAI BECOME THE FIRST HORNET DOUBLES TEAM TO REACH ALL-AMERICAN MAIN DRAW

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- Sacramento State junior Tatsiana Kapshai and sophomore Rebeca Delgado became the first Hornet doubles squad in program history to advance to the ITA All-American Tennis Championships main draw.
The tandem, which is currently ranked 43rd in the nation, won both their matches in the qualifying round to advance to today's main draw. That included an 8-5 victory over the 20th ranked doubles team in the nation (Marshall’s Michaela Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna) by an 8-5 score yesterday.
However, the duo's run came to an end today when they fell to 32nd-ranked Kim van Ginkel and Simona Synkova of Wyoming in the first round of the main draw.
The premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season which features the top players in Div. I, four players from the Hornets were selected to play at the event. Kapshai and Delgado both reached the second round of the singles pre-qualifying draw before losing. Hornet doubles team Maria Meliuk and Clarisse Baca began play in the pre-qualifying round and won their first two matches before falling to UCLA’s McCall Jones and Pamela Montez, 8-4.
