NO. 59 WOMEN'S TENNIS PASSES FIRST TEST OF SPRING SEASON WITH 4-0 TRIUMPH OVER NO. 61 COLORADO

BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 59 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team opened their 2010 spring campaign with a 4-0 victory over No. 61 Colorado in the first match of the 2010 ITA Kick-Off Weekend Cal regional.
With the victory, the Hornets move to 1-0 and will take on the winner of the matchup between No. 3 Cal and No. 63 Utah at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with a berth in the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championship on the line.
The Hornets wasted little time clinching the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The No. 2 tandem of sophomores Tatsiana Kapshai and Maria Meliuk took out Monica Milewski and Ania Anuszkiewicz, 8-2. At the No. 1 position, senior Katrina Zheltova and sophomore Clarisse Baca disposed of Camila Belassi and Melisa Esposito, 8-3, to take home the doubles point. Sacramento State was also leading the No. 3 matchup before it was left unfinished, as freshman Gayane Sarkisian and senior Aileen Tsan were ahead 6-5 on Michala Hedelund-Jensen and Abbie Probert.
Sacramento State then swept the match by winning the first three singles matches to finish in straight sets. At the No. 5 position in the lineup, Baca defeated Hedlund-Jensen by a score of 6-3, 6-0, and Kapshai quickly followed, posting a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Belassi at No. 3 singles. No. 26 ranked Zheltova then clinched the match for the Green and Gold, defeated No. 90 ranked Milewski by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
