NO. 59 WOMEN'S TENNIS IMPROVES TO 3-1 WITH 5-2 VICTORY OVER NEVADA

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 59 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack by a score of 5-2 on Saturday, Feb. 6 in a neutral site game at the University of Oregon.
With the victory, the Hornets improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Wolf Pack fall to 0-3.
Sacramento State won the doubles point for the third time this season, although they came from behind to do so. After dropping the No. 1 doubles position, freshman Rebeca Delgado and sophomore Tatsiana Kapshai evened the doubles matches at one apiece with an 8-4 victory over Florence De Vrye and Emma Verberne at No. 2 doubles. The Hornets then took the point as sophomore Maria Meliuk and senior Aileen Tsan defeated Aline Laurioux and Lais Ogata 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Senior Katrina Zheltova, who is ranked No. 26 by the ITA, started singles play off with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over De Vrye at No. 1 singles, giving the Hornets a 2-0 advantage in the match. After Nevada collected a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles, the Hornets got back-to-back wins from Delgado at the No. 4 position and Kapshai at the No. 3 spot in the lineup to clinch the victory. Delgado defeated Ogata 6-1, 6-1, and Kapshai took down Verberne 6-2, 6-2 to give Sacramento State its second straight victory in the state of Oregon, after picking up a 4-3 victory over Oregon on Friday night.
The final point for the Hornets came at the No. 5 position, as sophomore Clarisse Baca outlasted the Wolf Pack's Sophie Stevens by a final of 7-6 (7), 6-2.
Delgado improved to 2-0 on the season in both singles and doubles action in her first weekend in the Green and Gold.
The Hornets return to action on Thursday, Feb. 11 as they travel to the Bay Area to take on No. 14 Stanford. Doubles is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
