SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's tennis team began its three match homestand with a convincing 6-1 win over San Francisco, Saturday afternoon at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. With the win, the Hornets improved to 17-4 overall while the Dons dropped to 5-9.
Sacramento State took the first point of the match after winning all three of the doubles matches. The tandem of Aileen Tsan and Anastassia Lyssenko cruised to an 8-2 lead at No. 3 over Jennifer-Lee Heinser and Mylene Martin. The Hornets then clinched the doubles point with an 8-4 win at No. 1 from Katrina Zheltova and Melissa Valenzuela. Luba Schifris and Anastassia Lyssenko completed the sweep with a 7-1 win in the tie-breaker to secure a 9-8 win at No. 2.
Joyce Martinez Gutierrez put Sacramento State ahead, 2-0, with a straight-set win over Sarah Oudomvilay (6-1, 6-0) at No. 6. Lyssenko added on to the advantage with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 and Jarlkaganova guaranteed the win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 to put the team ahead, 4-0.
The Hornets moved ahead 6-0 with wins from Schifris at No. 4 and Zheltova at No. 1 before USF claimed its only point with a 7-5, 7-6, win from Mylene Martin over Melissa Valenzuela at No. 2.
Sacramento State continues its homestand with a pair of matches on Sunday. The team will face #38 Saint Mary's at 1 p.m. at Rio Del Oro before meeting Cal State Bakersfield at 7 p.m. at the Sparetime Indoor Tennis Center.
