NO. 46 WOMEN'S TENNIS IMPROVES TO 5-0 IN THE BIG SKY AFTER TWO VICTORIES

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's tennis team improved their Big Sky record to 5-0 on the season with a 6-1 victory over Eastern Washington and a 7-0 victory over Idaho State on Thursday, March 27 at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
With the two victories, the Hornets improve to 13-4, 5-0 in the Big Sky, while Eastern Washington falls to 8-8 (4-2 BSC) and Idaho State falls to 2-6 (0-4 BSC).
In the day's opening match, the Hornets took home the doubles point and five of the six single matches to take over the victory over the Eagles. In doubles action, juniors Karina Jarlkaganova and Luba Schfris defeated Sarah Leuenberger and Marie Demerath at No. 2 doubles 9-7, while junior Anastassia Lyssenko and sophomore Aileen Tsan took home an 8-1 victory over Kerstyn Dolack and Rachel Berger at the No. 3 position, securing the point.
In singles action, the Hornets were victorious in the first five singles matches to finish, all in straight sets. Lyssenko picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Dolack, while Schfris was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Leuenberger at No. 3 singles. No. 4 singles saw Jarlkaganova take down Demerath 6-0, 6-0, while junior Joyce Martinez Gutierrez was a 7-5, 6-0 winner over Amanda Mankovits. At No. 6 singles, Tsan defeated Berger 6-1, 6-1, and the Hornets took home a 6-1 victory.
In the second match of the day, the Hornets swept Idaho State 7-0, winning all nine matches that took place under the lights. The Hornets No. 1 doubles tandem of freshman Melissa Valenzuela and Martinez Gutierrez took home an 8-1 victory over Stephanie Rolden and Magaly Rivera. In singles action, Valenzuela also picked up her first victory of the day at No. 1 singles, defeating Lisel Lewis 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8).
The Hornets return to action on Saturday as they host Montana and Montana State at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
