NO. 32 RANKED WOMEN'S TENNIS HOLDS OFF NEVADA 4-3

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 32 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team held off the Nevada Wolf Pack, 4-3, in a neutral site contest held on the campus of the University of Oregon.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 11-1 on the season, while the Wolf Pack fall to 3-6.

Sacramento State started the match off with two quick doubles match victories, clinching the doubles point before the final match was finished. Sophomore Aileen Tsan and junior Anastassia Lyssenko defeated Latetitia Tan and Ly-Houng Dinh 8-1 at No. 3 doubles, while juniors Luba Schifris and Karina Jarlkaganova defeated Florence De Vrye and Alice Hall 8-2 at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point. In the final doubles match to finish, the tandem of sophomore Katrina Zheltova and freshman Melissa Valenzuela fell to Maria Mizyuk and Caroline Bailly at No. 1 doubles, 8-6.

In singles action, the Hornets took the first three matches to clinch the victory, before falling in the final three matches to finish. Jarlkaganova won the point at No. 5 singles after her opponent, Tan, had to retire before the start of the second set. Lyssenko then took home a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 position over De Vrye. The match clinching point came at No. 1 singles, where No. 57 ranked Zheltova upset No. 40 ranked Mizyuk in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

The win gave the Hornets their seventh straight victory, their most consecutive wins since the 2005 season, when they won eight in a row on the back-end of a span that saw the team win 20-of-21 matches played. Jarlkaganova and Zheltova extended their individual singles win streaks to six matches, while Lyssenko has now won five straight.

The Hornets return to action as they take on No. 62 ranked Oregon tomorrow at 12 p.m.
