The win marks the 34th straight win against Big Sky opposition for the Hornets, a streak that dates back to 2002.

“I’m obviously very happy with how we performed today,” said Sacramento State head coach Bill Campbell. “This is our goal at the beginning of each season, and we accomplished it today. Our girls work so hard, both on the court and in the classroom. They are very deserving of this. I’m proud of them.”

The Hornets won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. Margarita Karnaukhova and Anastassia Lyssenko defeated the Northern Arizona team of Katie Schurr and Paij Porter 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Karina Jarlkaganova and Cecilia Helland then secured the doubles point with a win at the No. 3 spot over NAU’s Regan Newman and Stacey Pinchbeck.

Sacramento State then needed just three complete singles matches to secure its fifth-straight title. Karnaukhova defeated Susan McClelland in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 1 spot, while Lyssenko picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Newman at the the No. 6 position. Joyce Gutierrez wrapped things up for the Hornets with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Schurr at No. 3 singles.

With the win, the Hornets are now guaranteed a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Pairings for that tournament will be announced next weekend.
