SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women''s tennis won its first match of the season, defeating the University of San Diego on Sunday by a score of 5-2. In doubles action, senior Margarita Karnaukhova and freshman Anastassia Lyssenko defeated the Toreros’ Emma Murphy and Lauren Pearl 8-6. To claim the doubles point, Sacramento State’s Cecilia Helland and Svetlana Pimenova defeated Sophie Vogt and Brittany Reitz 8-5.
In the singles ladder, Karnaukhova defeated Murphy in three sets (3-6, 7-5, 6-1) and at No. 2, freshman Luba Schifris defeated Jenny Brown in two sets (7-5, 7-5). Also picking up a victory was freshman Karina Jarlkaganova, who needed just two sets to outlast San Diego’s Helene Lindstrand (6-4,-6-1). Helland notched a singles win as well at No. 5, defeating Reitz (6-0, 6-1).
Sacramento State will next travel to play Boston College on Friday, Feb. 10.
