KAPSHAI NAMED MVP; WOMEN'S TENNIS SECURES FOUR FIRST-TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS

Tatsiana Kapshai earned her second straight Big Sky MVP honors.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Tatsiana Kapshai was named MVP of the Big Sky Conference and the Sacramento State women's tennis team earned four other all-conference selections. The all-conference selections and individual awards were voted by the league’s head coaches and released by the league office on Thursday.
This is the ninth straight year a Sacramento State women’s players has been named MVP and the fifth straight year for a Hornet male. Kiryl Harbatsiuk took MVP honors for the men.
Kapshai, a native of Minsk, Belarus, is 12-8 overall and was undefeated in conference play. She helped the Hornets (19-8) to their 10th straight Big Sky Championship last week. Sacramento State will represent the Big Sky in the NCAA Tournament in two weeks.
Kapshai is one of four Hornets named to the league’s first team. She’s joined by junior Clarisse Baca, junior Maria Meliuk, who both went undefeated in league play, and sophomore Rebeca Delgado who dropped only one conference match.
Sacramento State has won 82 straight matches over conference opponents, including last weekend’s leag matches.
It was the third straight first-team honor for Meliuk and the second consecutive selections for Baca and Delgado.
Freshman Sophie Lohscheidt was a second-team all-conference selection.
Kapshai went 11-8 this season at No. 1 singles, including a perfect 6-0 in Big Sky Conference play. She also combined with Delgado to post a 14-6 doubles mark, 5-1 in conference action.
Baca had a team-best 20-6 record in singles play - the first 20-win season for the Hornets since 2008. The also went 20-5 in doubles play with partner Meliuk. Baca ended the regular season with a 10-match winning streak in singles play and tacked on another two wins at the Big Sky Conference Tournament.
Meliuk posted a 14-11 singles mark with an 8-0 record in conference play. Lohscheidt went 15-8 in her freshman season and a perfect 8-0 in conference play.
The Hornets lost just three singles matches all season in conference play.
