KAPSHAI HAS PERFECT DAY AS NO. 53 WOMEN'S TENNIS SWEEPS IDAHO STATE AND WEBER STATE, 7-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sophomore Tatsiana Kapshai did not drop a game on the day as the No. 53 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team defeated both the Idaho State Bengals and Weber State Wildcats by margins of 7-0 on Sunday, March 28.

With the victories, the Hornets improve to 15-5, 6-0 inside the Big Sky Conference. They have now won 68 straight matches over conference competition.

The action started at 9 a.m. as the Hornets took on the Bengals to open the days play. After sweeping the doubles point, Sacramento State lost just a combined seven games in singles action on their way to the clean sweep. At No. 1 singles, Kapshai defeated Lisel Lewis by a score of 6-0, 6-0, and freshman Rebeca Delgado took care of Sophie Dang at the No. 2 position 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Zalina Nazarova next posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Rachel Ryan at the No. 6 position, and sophomore Maria Meliuk followed closely behind with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot in the order. In the closet match of the contest against the Bengals, junior Milica Zivanovic defeated Amy Bettis at the No. 4 position by a count of 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Gayane Sarkisian wrapped up the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Risa Fujiwara at No. 5 singles, concluding the 7-0 victory.

In the second match of the day, the Hornets again swept a Big Sky foe, this time the Weber State Wildcats. Sacramento State took home all three doubles contests, including Delgado and Kapshai posting a 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles over Elsje Beneke and Greyce Farias.  In singles competition, Kapshai completed her perfect day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Keya Jenkins at No. 1 singles position, giving her 24 game victories without a defeat on the day. Meliuk then followed suit with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own over Elsje Beneke at No. 3 singles. The Hornets won the rest of the matches in straight sets,

On the day, the Hornets dropped just 25 of 169 games contest. Kapshai improved her winning streak to six straight singles matches, and her overall record at the No. 1 position to 7-2. The doubles tandem of Delgado and Kapshai have now won seven matches in a row, and improved to 10-2 as a unit this season. After dropping her first 10 matches of the season, Meliuk has now posted five straight victories.

The Hornets close out the conference portion of their regular season scheduled on Monday afternoon, as they host Montana at 2:30 p.m. from the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
