BACA NAMED BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR FIRST TIME

OGDEN, Utah - Sacramento State women's tennis player Clarisse Baca has been named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for matches ending March 23.

Baca, a sophomore from Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, went 3-0 at singles, scoring the only team point in Sacramento State’s 6-1 loss to No. 9 California. Baca played at the No. 4 position, defeating California’s Kasia Siwosz 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, 1-0 (10-7).

In conference matches, Baca defeated Northern Colorado's Jenny Whateley 6-0, 6-1 and Montana State's Charlotta Hjalmarrson 6-1, 6-1. Baca joined fellow sophomore Tatsiana Kapshai to win twice by a margin of 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles position against Montana State and Northern Colorado.

Baca is now 7-0 at No. 3 and No. 4 positions, and has won five straight matches in singles competition. She earned the Big Sky's weekly honor for the first time in her career, and was the fourth Hornet to earn the award this season.

The Hornets open a five-match homestand on March 24 as they host Eastern Washington. First serve of doubles from Rio Del Oro Racquet Club is scheduled for 2 p.m.
