NO. 47 WOMEN'S TENNIS WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT WITH 4-3 VICTORY OVER SAN DIEGO

SAN DIEGO - The No. 47 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team defeated the No. 60 ranked San Diego Toreros by a score of 4-3 on Sun., Feb. 28.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 8-3 on the season, while the Toreros fall to 4-6.
The Hornets swept the doubles point for the third straight match, as freshman Rebeca Delgado and sophomore Tatsiana Kapshai started things off with an 8-6 triumph over Alexandra Demidova and Marite Raygada at the No. 2 position. Sophomore Maria Meliuk and senior Aileen Tsan followed with an 8-4 victory over Laura Claus and Justine Perl at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point. The sweep came from sophomore Clarisse Baca and senior Katrina Zheltova at No. 1 doubles, as the Hornet duo defeated Juliette Coupez and Maja Sujica 8-5.
Sacramento State took home the match by winning three of the first four singles matches to be completed. Delgado continued her strong play, giving the Hornets a 2-0 lead in the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lisa Marbach at No. 4 singles. After the Toreros pulled back to within 2-1 with a victory at No. 2 singles, Tsan won her sixth straight match, taking down Marite Raygada at the No. 6 position, 6-3, 6-1.
No. 46 ranked Zheltova then clinched the match for the Hornets, defeating Juliette Coupez by a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to give the Hornets a 4-1 lead. The Toreros won the final two matches of the day, giving the Hornets a 4-3 victory.
The Hornets avenged a 7-0 defeat at the hands of San Diego a season ago, and have now won four straight matches.
Sacramento State returns to action on Sun., Feb. 7 as the Hornets host Saint Mary's at 1 p.m. at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
