NO. 34 WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO NO. 37 FRESNO STATE

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 34 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to the No. 37 ranked Fresno State Bulldogs on Sunday, March 15 at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 9-5, while the Bulldogs improve to 8-4.

The Bulldogs, who boast the No. 1 and No. 9 ranked doubles teams in the country, took the doubles point, although the Hornets duo of junior Aileen Tsan and freshman Maria Meliuk tied the doubles match at 1-1 with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles, before the Hornets lost at No. 2 doubles to drop the point.

In singles action, the Hornets fought hard with the Bulldogs, who boast two top 25 players in the country, before falling. Tsan battled with No. 14 ranked Melanie Gloria at No. 1 singles before dropping a 6-2, 6-4 decision. Freshman Maria Meliuk and senior Luba Schifris also came close to winning sets against ranked players, with both players losing a set by a 6-4 margin.

The Hornets will turn back around to host Northern Colorado on Monday, March 16 in Big Sky action at 2:30 p.m. at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
