WOMEN'S TENNIS CLINCHES REGULAR SEASON TITLE WITH PAIR OF TRIUMPHS

BOZEMAN, Mont. - The No. 46 ranked Sacramento State women's tennis team ended the day with a 6-1 victory over Montana State, after earlier defeating Montana 6-1 in Big Sky action on Saturday, March 29.
With the wins, the Hornets improve to 15-4, 7-0 in the Big Sky, and have clinched the Big Sky Regular Season Championship.
In the first match of the day against Montana, the Hornets took home the doubles point by posting a 2-1 record in doubles action. The No. 2 doubles duo of juniors Luba Schifris and Karina Jarlkaganova took home an 8-2 victory, while the No. 3 tandem of sophomore Aileen Tsan and junior Anastassia Lyssenko were 8-3 victors.
In singles play, Sacramento State won five of six matches against the Lady Griz, with freshman Melissa Valenzuela taking home a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles over Liz Walker. Other Hornets posting victories included Lyssenko at No. 3 (6-2, 6-4), Jarlkaganova at No. 4 (6-1, 6-2), junior Joyce Martinez Gutierrez at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) and Tsan at No. 6 (6-0, 6-2)
In the day's second encounter against Montana State, the Hornets again took home the doubles point after winning the bottom two doubles positions.
On the singles side of the ledger, the Hornets again won five of the six matches contested. The hardest fought victory belonged to Schifris at the No. 2 position, as she was victorious in the only three set match contested all day, posting a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Nuria Hernandez. Other singles winners included Valenzuela at No. 1 (6-4, 7-6), Lyssenko at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), Martinez Gutierrez at No. 5 (6-0, 6-2) and Tsan at No. 6 (6-2, 6-2).
Sacramento State returns to action on Monday, March 31 as they travel to Northern Colorado for their final Big Sky match up of the regular season. First serve from Greeley, Colo. is set for 1:30 p.m.
