With the victory, Sacramento State gained the five points it needed to claim the cup, an annual competition between the two schools. The Hornets now take a 53.75-31.25 lead over UC Davis on the year, with a total of 105 points available.

The women’s tennis team is now 12-5 on the season and on a four-match winning streak.

No. 1 singles player Margarita Karnaukhova improved to 8-4 on the year with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over UC Davis’ Ally Muller.

Freshman Luba Schifris, now on a four-match winning streak, defeated Robin Guier for her 10th victory of the season. At the No. 3 spot, freshman Joyce Martinez Gutierrez defeated Audrey Wingo, 6-0, 6-1, improving her record to 9-2 in 2006.

Junior Cecilia Helland remained undefeated (7-0) at the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jenna Kappel. Helland is now 13-4 overall this season. At No. 5, freshman Anastassia Lyssenko defeated the Aggies Jessica Harris, 6-0, 6-1. Svetlana Pimenova then picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Emma Shapiro at the No. 6 spot.

After sweeping the singles matches, the Hornets gained victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches to also take the doubles point.

Sacramento State will next host Fresno State at noon at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club on Saturday.
