Once again it was the pairing of senior Margarita Karnaukhova and freshman Anastassia Lyssenko at the No. 1 doubles spot helping Sacramento State to the doubles point. Karnaukhova and Lyssenko improve to 5-2 this season with their defeat of LMU’s Pavla Mesterova and Robyn Baker, 8-5.

Junior Cecilia Helland and freshman Svetlana Pimenova won their doubles match over Maja Sundac and Sladjana Kos at the No. 3 spot, 8-3, to give the Hornets the doubles point. The pair improve to 4-3 this season.

The teams split the singles matches, with Karnaukhova picking up her fifth win of the year, defeating Mesterova, 6-1, 6-2. Lyssenko added the Hornets’ second singles point at the No. 3 spot, with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Patrycia Hubl. Helland then earned her sixth singles victory of the year, defeating Erin Ivey, 6-3, 6-2.

Baker defeated Sacramento State freshman Karina Jarlkaganova, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot and the Lions’ Sladjana Kos needed three sets to earn a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Hornet freshman Luba Schifris. Pimenova then fell to Sundac, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot.

Sacramento State will next host UC Irvine at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 10 at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
