Sophomore Cecilia Helland improved to 20-1 on the year with wins over UC Irvine and Cal Poly.

Yesterday at UCI, Sacramento State started off the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to claim the point. At the one, junior Margarita Karnaukhova and sophomore Anna Karaveyeva defeated Inna Agababian and Anna Bentzer, 8-5. At the two, sophomore Anna Erikson and freshman Klara Petersson defeated Jessica Broadfoot and Izabela Mijic, 8-2. At the three, senior Roberta Fessenko and sophomore Cecilia Helland defeated Jayme Hu and Lisa Shih, 9-7.

In singles play, Karnaukhova defeated Bentzer 6-3, 7-6, at the one. At the two, Erikson defeated Mijic 6-1, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Fessenko fell in her match to Agababian, 7-6, 4-6, 14-12 in the super-tiebreak. At the four, Petersson won her match over Becky Bernhard, 6-2, 6-2. At the five, Helland, ranked No. 72, defeated Hu, 6-4, 6-1. At the six, Karaveyeva lost her match to Broadfoot, 7-5, 2-5, ret.

Today at Cal Poly, the Mustangs won two of the three doubles matches to claim the early 1-0 lead. At the one, Karnaukhova and Karaveyeva defeated Samantha Waller and Nicole Shabaz, 8-4. At the two, the Hornet duo of Erikson and Petersson fell to Noelle Lee and Chelsy Thompson, 8-6. At the three, Helland and Fessenko fell in their match to Carol Erickson and Paige Billingsley, 8-3.

In singles play, Karnaukhova, ranked No. 21 in the nation, defeated Waller at the one, 6-1, 6-0. She now improves to 19-2 on the year. At the two, Erikson, ranked No. 75, dispatched Thompson, 6-2, 6-0. Erikson is now 14-4 on the season. At the three, Fessenko won her match over Lee, 6-2, 6-0. At the four, Petersson defeated Erickson, 6-1, 6-1. At the five, Helland improved to 20-1 on the year with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Shabaz. Karaveyeva finished off the day at the six with a 6-0, 6-7, 7-0 win in the super-tiebreak over Sheila Lewis.

Sacramento State returns to action tomorrow as the team heads to Los Angeles to take on Loyola Marymount. First serve against the host Lions is set for 11 a.m.
