With the win, the Hornets (10-3) won their seventh match in a row and have now won nine of their last 10 after beginning the season 1-2. New Mexico State dropped to 5-4 with the loss.

Sacramento State, which is ranked 39th in the nation, opened the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to pick up the point. The Hornets’ tandem of Margarita Karnaukhova/Cecilia Helland (8-3), Anna Erikson/Klara Petersson (9-7) and Anna Karaveyeva/Roberta Fessenko (8-3) each posted victories.

In singles play, Karnaukhova, who is ranked 23rd in the nation, defeated Isabelle Mignot, 6-2, 6-1, to improve her record to 12-1 this season. At No. 2, Fessenko knocked off Lejla Porobic, 6-1, 6-4, and Petersson beat Fanny Rollet at the No. 3 singles spot, 6-1, 6-3.

Karaveyeva beat Nicole Fintell, 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 4 spot. Helland, who is ranked 61st in the nation, also improved to 12-1 this season as she beat Anne Fagegaltier, 6-2, 6-1. The Hornets’ only loss of the day came at the No. 6 spot where New Mexico State’s Sandra Mayr beat Cristina Rivieccio, 6-4, 2-6, and 10-1 in the third set super tiebreaker.

Sacramento State returns to action tomorrow (Sunday, March 13) as the team takes on 46th-ranked New Mexico at 1:30 p.m. The Hornets will attempt to post their fourth-straight victory over a ranked opponent.
