The Hornets found themselves in a hole, 1-0, after losing the doubles point to the Bulldogs. Margarita Karnaukhova and Marta Gronowicz dropped the No. 1 doubles match, to Jelana Pandzic and Lucio Tallo, 8-1. In the No. 2 match, Anna Erikson and Ann Roslund were beaten 8-4, by Katharina Winterhalter and Lucio Sainz. The No. 3 match, with Roberta Fessenko and Cecilia Helland versus Courtney Jantz and Vlatka Jovanovic did not need to be finished.

In singles play, the Hornets needed to win four of six singles matches to pull off the upset but could only manage three victories, in six hotly contested matches.

In the No. 1 position Karnaukhova lost to Pandzic, 6-3, 6-1, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Erikson gave the Hornets their first point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Tallo in the second position. Fessenko, playing in the No. 3 position, against Katharina Winterhalter, was beaten 6-2, 6-4 leaving the Hornets down 3-1.

The Hornets pulled even with the Bulldogs by taking the next two singles matches from Fresno Sate. Gronowicz defeated Jovanovic 6-4, 7-5, at No. 4 and Helland defeated Jantz 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the No. 6 match.

The number five seeds decided the match with a three set marathon, with Sainz getting the best of Roslund with a 5-7, 6-7, 6-2 victory.

The Hornets finish the regular season with a 23-4 overall record.

Seniors Marta Gronowicz and Ann Roslund played in their last match as members of the Sacramento State squad.
