NO. 33 WOMEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS ISU, 7-0, IN FINAL REGULAR-SEASON MATCH
SACRAMENTO, Calif. ---The No. 33 Sacramento State women’s tennis team defeated Big Sky Conference opponent Idaho State, 7-0, Saturday morning at the Rio Del Oro tennis club. The win represents the sixteenth straight victory for the Hornets, which is the longest winning streak in program history.
The Hornets finish the regular season at 21-3 overall and with a perfect 6-0 record in conference play. Sacramento State enters the conference championships as the number one seed, when it begins next Friday, April 29 in Ogden, Utah.
In singles play the Hornets swept all six matches from the Bengals. Seniors Marta Gronowicz and Petra Abraham, both playing in their last regular season home matches, had singles victories. No. 42 Margarita Karnaukhova, No. 43 Anna Erikson, Cecilia Helland and Amanda Sanches also earned singles victories for the Hornets.
Sacramento State won all three doubles matches and the doubles point. Senior Yasmin Kashef playing in her last regular season game as a Hornet, with teammate Cristina Rivieccio defeated Denise Cockrell and Katherine Zigars, (8-1). Karnaukhova/Gronowicz beat Hayli Scott and Melissa Bessman (8-2), while Helland/Fessenko defeated Armine Sarkavagyan and Melanie Kranz (8-2).
