OGDEN, Utah —Sacramento State men’s tennis players Julien Chatelan and Anders Albertsen each earned all-Big Sky Conference honors, it was announced today. Chatelan was named to the first team while Albertsen was a second team selection.A native of Lausanne, Switzerland, Chatelan has a 13-2 singles record heading into the NCAA Tournament. One of five foreign born players on the roster, Chatelan picked up nine of his 13 wins in straight sets. He posted a 1-1 mark at No. 1 singles, a perfect 4-0 record at the No. 2 spot and went 5-1 at the No. 3 position. Chatelan was out of the lineup with a shoulder injury from Mar. 5 through April 16. He returned to the team at the Big Sky Championships where he helped the Hornets win the Big Sky championship with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Idaho State’s Adam Krupp at the No. 4 spot.
Albertsen, a native of Copenhagen, Denmark, posted a 15-8 mark in doubles play to go along with a 14-13 mark in singles competition. In doubles play, he teamed with Nick Sheehan the majority of the season and together, the duo posted a 15-4 record, including a 7-1 mark at No. 2 doubles. Albertsen was named Big Sky Player of the Week on Mar. 26 after defeating Oklahoma’s Matt Ogle, 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.
Sacramento State (12-15, 6-2 Big Sky) will play California (18-4) on Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m. at the Hellman Tennis Center on the California campus in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the match will play the winner of the Arizona/Boise State match on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets recently recorded their fifth Big Sky title in the past six years and will be appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history.
