OGDEN, Utah -- Freshman Margarita Karnaukhova became the first women’s Sacramento State tennis player to be named Big Sky Most Valuable Player, and head coach Bill Campbell received women’s tennis Big Sky Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive year, the conference announced today. Karnaukhova was also named first team all-conference as the Sacramento State women’s tennis team tied the most all-conference selections in Div. Freshman Margarita Karnaukhova and sophomore Roberta Fessenko were named first team all-Big Sky, while junior Ann Roslund was named to the second team and junior Petra Abraham received Honorable Mention honors.

Karnaukhova, a native of Krasnovar, Russia, was named Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player. The freshman went 11-4 at No. 1 singles, and 14-4 when teamed with Roslund in doubles play. This is the first year Karnaukhova, ranked 63rd in the nation, has been named first team all-conference. She was named Big Sky Player of the Week on February 20.

A native of Rostov On Don, Russia, Fessenko went 11-11 overall, including 6-5 record at the No. 2 singles spot for the Hornets. Roslund had an overall singles'' record of 10-10. The Bastad, Sweden, native posted an 8-3 record at No. 3 singles and went 14-4 with Karnaukhova in doubles play. This marks the first time that Roslund has been named second team all-conference.

A well-known figure in the Sacramento region tennis circles, he now owns a career record of 53-51. Campbell took over the program in 1999 after the team finished with a record of 1-15.
