WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO PEPPERDINE, 6-1

PEPPERDINE, Calif., - The 53rd-ranked Pepperdine women''s tennis team defeated Sacramento State, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves improved their record to 12-13 overall as they ended their regular season, while the Hornets dropped to 12-7.

Pepperdine won two of three matches to gain the doubles point. Sacramento State’s Margarita Karnaukhova and Ann Roslund won the only doubles set for the Hornets as they defeated Monika Hovath and Charlotte Vernaz, 8-3. Pepperdine won the remaining matches as the tandem of Anna Andersson and Karin Schlapbach defeated Hornets Roberta Fessenko and Amanda Sanches, 8-4, and Merve Asimgil and Veronica Koksova clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Sacramento State’s Petra Abraham and Cristina Rivieccio at the No.3 spot.

Pepperdine also controlled singles play as the Waves picked up five singles points. Rivieccio picked up the singles point for the Hornets to prevent the sweep with her victory over Koksova (6-1, 7-6). Karnaukhova remained on the bench for singles play with a strained back.

Pepperdine’s Vernaz defeated Fessenko (6-4, 6-2), Asimgil defeated Roslund (1-6, 6-1, 7-5), Horvth defeated Abraham (6-1, 6-1), Schlapbach defeated Sanches (6-1, 6-1) and Andersson defeated Yasmin Kashef (6-2, 6-1) for the Wave victory.

The Hornets will return home to host Utah on Friday, April 18 on their home courts of Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in Sacramento, Calif., at 2 p.m.
