MEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO CAL POLY, 5-2

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. –The Sacramento State men’s tennis team fell to Cal Poly, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Mustang Tennis Courts. The loss is the fourth-straight for the Hornets whose record now falls to 9-13. The Mustangs improved to 12-8 on the year.

Cal Poly won two of the three doubles matches to claim the point. The Hornet duo of junior Nick Sheehan and freshman Anders Albertsen were victorious at the No. 2 spot, defeating Travis Crawford and Stacy Meronoff, 8-6. Sophomores Matt Jones and Peter Farkas lost their No. 1 match to Brett Van Linge and Davey Jones, 8-5. At the three, freshmen Lewis Van Splunteren and Jakub Sliva were defeated Greg Levy and Nick Tracy, 8-4.

In singles play, Jones lost at the one to Meronoff, 6-4, 6-4. Sheehan lost a tough match to Tracy at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 3 spot, Sliva fell to Jones, 6-1, 6-2. Albertsen picked up one of the two Hornet points as he defeated Van Linge at the four, 6-1, 6-1. Van Splunteren fell to Crawford, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Farkas won his fifth-consecutive singles’ match, defeating Adrian Mardyks, 7-6, 6-4, at the six.

Sacramento State returns to action on Saturday, April 5 as they take on Loyola Marymount. First serve against the Lions is set for 2:30 p.m. The match against LMU will also take place at Cal Poly.
