WOMEN'S TENNIS BIG SKY CHAMPS, JOIN MEN AT NCAA TOURNEY

BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Sacramento State won their first ever Big Sky Conference Championship with a close victory over Northern Arizona on Sunday, 4-3. The win gives the Hornets an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, which will take place May 11-12 and marks the first appearance in the tournament in program history since joining the ranks of Division I in 1993. Sacramento State improved its record to 20-3 overall and 6-0 in the Big Sky.

Sacramento State dominated singles play as four of the six of the Hornets came away with a point. Junior Marta Gronowicz (No. 2), sophomore Petra Abraham (No. 4), freshman Amanda Sanches (No. 5) and freshman Christina Rivieccio (No. 6) all scored for Sacramento State. Sanches improved to 20-2 overall and Gronowicz raised her record to 17-5.

The Hornets lost the doubles point to NAU. Senior Gabriella Lundqvuist and Gronowicz paired up to win the only set for Sacramento State.

Sacramento State finished the year 2-0 against the Lumberjacks. The Hornets now own a six match win streak overall, including five straight in postseason play.

On Thursday, May 2, the Hornets will learn of its parings and match time, which will be released by the NCAA.
