SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State won every set against Portland State, 7-0, to clinch the No.1 seed in Big Sky Pacific Regionals. The match was rescheduled and relocated to 9 a.m. at Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center in Gold River, Calif., so that Portland State would be able to meet their travel arrangements.The Hornets dominated singles play as all six singles players earned a point. Italina Kirknis and Laila Karim came in to play for Sacramento State, while Marta Gronowicz and Roberta Fessenko sat out to rest prior injuries. This is the sixth time this season that the Hornets have swept all six singles matches for the win.
Sacramento State also controlled the doubles play as the doubles tandem of Gabriella Lundqvuist and Amanda Sanches made its first appearence in a victory over Portland State, 8-2. Hornet duos of Roberta Fessenko/Kirknis and Cristina Rivieccio/Petra Abraham also won their doubles sets.
Also in round robin play, Northern Arizona defeated Weber State, 7-0.
Sacramento State looks on towards the Big Sky Conference Tournament in Montana on April 26-28. As the No. 1 seeded team, the Hornets will receive a first-round bye before playing the winner of Weber State and the No. 2 seeded Mountain Regional Team. This marks the first Div. 1 appearence for the Hornets at the Big Sky Conference Tournament.
