SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State will serve as host for the 2001
Big Sky Tennis Championships beginning on Friday, April 20, and
running through Sunday, April 22, at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in
Sacramento.
The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday when Montana State
faces Weber State and Northern Arizona meets Montana in men's action.
The women's teams will take the court at 2 p.m. when Idaho State
squares off against Northern Arizona and Cal State Northridge plays
Montana State.
In the men's semifinals on Saturday, the winner of the
Montana/Northern Arizona match faces Idaho State and the other first
round winner takes on Sacramento State at 2 p.m. The ISU/NAU winner
faces Weber State and the other victor meets Montana in women's
action at 10 a.m.
The men's final will be held on Sunday at 9 a.m. The women's final
will follow at 1 p.m.
The teams were seeded based on their performance at the two (Pacific
and Mountain) regionals held over the past two weeks. The second seed
from one region will face the third from the other and vice-versa in
the first rounds. The team's with byes on Friday earned the right
after winning their respective regional.
Last season, Montana State ended Sacramento State's two-year run as
conference champion by capturing the men's title. Weber State won
the women's crown, ending NAU's streak of three-straight
championships. Both winners will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA
Championships.
