WOMEN'S TENNIS CLINCHES 11th STRAIGHT LEAGUE TITLE WITH 90th CONSECUTIVE BIG SKY WIN

The Sacramento State women's tennis team won its 90th-consecutive Big Sky match at UNC.

GREELEY, Colo. - The Sacramento State women's tennis team clinched its 11th straight Big Sky Conference regular season title by winning its 90th consecutive league match in a 6-1 victory at Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon.

Sacramento State won its first regular season and Big Sky Tournament titles in 2002 and has not lost a league match since. The Hornets host the conference tournament this season, from April 21-22, at the Gold River Racquet Club.

The Hornets (15-9, 8-0 Big Sky) extended their ridiculous conference winning streak by taking all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches in their regular season finale Sunday against the Bears.

Two-time reigning Big Sky Conference MVP, Tatsiana Kapshai, was once again victorious in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. The senior has won six straight matches and is 13-4 versus non-ranked foes this year.

The Hornets won in straight sets at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles as well, only losing at No. 6. Along with Kapshai, seniors Clarisse Baca (six consecutive wins) and Maria Meliuk (7-3 in her last 10 singles matches) finished their final year strong as they prepare for the conference tournament.

Kapshai and Rebeca Delgado, the No. 82 ranked doubles team in the nation, won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles as did Maria Meliuk and Clarisse Baca at No. 2 plus Sophie Lohscheidt and Andrea Gomez Carus at No. 3.

This season, Sacramento State went 44-4 in singles play and 23-1 in doubles matches against conference foes.
