WOMEN'S TENNIS STUMBLES VS. NO. 28 SAINT MARY'S

Maria Meliuk won at No. 6 singles but the Hornets lost, 6-1, to Saint Mary's.

GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's tennis team lost by a 6-1 decision to No. 28 Saint Mary's on Sunday afternoon at the Spare Time Indoor TC.

The Hornets (9-8) won at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles but the highly ranked Gales (8-5) took the remainder of the matches to pull out the victory.

Maria Meliuk won her singles match for the fifth time in her last six outings. Meliuk won in grinding fashion, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-5 over Saint Mary's Carla Lindlar. Katharina Knoebl and Sophie Lohscheidt also combined to win, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, the Hornets won the first set in four matches but won just one of the them.

Sacramento State will play at Cal on Friday before hosting Big Sky Conference foe Eastern Washington on Saturday.
