WOMEN'S TENNIS FEELING STRONG AFTER SECOND FALL TOURNAMENT

MORAGA, Calif. - Sacramento State came away feeling strong after competing in its second fall tournament this past weekend, participating in the Saint Mary's Invitational in Moraga, Calif. Five of the team's 11 players saw action over the weekend.

Of the five players to take the court over the weekend, three - Tsveti Yotova, Paige Alter, and Shauna Casey - made their debut as a Hornet.

Yotova won in her first Hornets singles match, defeating a player from Santa Clara in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, to advance to the Round of 16.  

The other two Hornets to play were returning juniors Jenna Dorian and Frana Ugarkovic. Dorian is the team's winngest player from a year ago and played well against some of the top competitors in the tournament.

Ugarkovic led the Hornets over the weekend with two singles wins, winning her Flight's Round Robin with convinging back-to-back singles wins, 6-4, 6-3 against an opponent from Santa Clara and 6-1, 6-2 against a player from Pacific.

In doubles play, the Hornets combined to win three matches, including a Round of 32 victory for the team of Casey and Alter. Alter was part of another big doubles win, teaming up with Dorian to defeat a talented team from Saint Mary's, 8-7(3).

This weekend's tournament was the second of five fall competitions for the Hornets. Up next is the ITA Northwest Regional from Oct. 19-22 at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.
