WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS BIG SKY TOURNAMENT PLAY ON THURSDAY IN PHOENIX

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - With the tennis regular season now completed, the Sacramento State women's tennis team will travel to Phoenix for the 2019 Big Sky Conference Tournament. Matches begin Thursday, April 25th with the Hornets set to assume the No. 6 seed in the single elimination tournament. 

The tournament, which will be held at the Phoenix Tennis Center in Phoenix, Ariz. from April 25-27, features the top six teams from the 11-member conference. The quarterfinals take place on Thursday, the semifinals are on Friday, and the championship match will be on Saturday. All matches begin at 11 a.m. PT. Live stats will be available for all matches, as well.

Sacramento State finished with an 8-13 overall record and a 5-5 mark in Big Sky play, locking up the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament. As the No. 6 seed, they will open the tournament on Thursday at 11 a.m. with a match against the No. 3 seeded Weber State Wildcats.

The other quarterfinal matchup features No. 4 Eastern Washington vs. No. 5 Southern Utah, also at 11 a.m. on Thursday. The semifinals begin on Friday as the No. 1 seeded Northern Arizona Lumberjacks take on the lowest remaining seed. The No. 2 Idaho Vandals will host the highest remaining seed.

The winners of the two semifinal matches will face each other for the championship on Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m. PT.

The winner of the Big Sky Tournament receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Sophomore Jenna Dorian leads the Hornets this season with a 9-3 record in singles against Big Sky competition. Senior Sofi Wicker and freshman Jayden Nielsen are 6-4 and 6-3 in conference singles play, repectively, while as a team, the Hornets finished 31-29 in singles matches against Big Sky teams this year.
