PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's tennis team competed six players in this weekend's ITA Northwest Regionals tournament in Palo Alto, Calif. All three doubles teams picked up a win over the weekend while four of the six players earned at least one victory in singles play.
"Everyone had a nice weekend," said tennis head coach Cami Hubbs after the tournament. "It was great to get so many doubles wins and compete with the best players in our region."
All three doubles teams had at least one win over the weekend, combining for a total of five. The pairs of both Dhar/Wicker and Chernyetsky/Dorian were 2-1. Although both teams lost their Friday doubles matches, they both bounced back to get wins on each Saturday and Sunday.
The duo of Dorian and Ugarkovic won their open doubles match on Friday, defeating a pair from Pacific, 8-5.
Chernyetsky, Dhar, Dorian, and Wicker each picked up singles wins, highlighted by Dorian's 2-1 showing in the main open draw. She won each of her first two matches, defeating an opponent from both Portland State and UC Davis before falling in the round of 16 to the tournament's ninth-ranked Caroline Lampi of Stanford. Lampi would advance to the open draw's final match, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
Overall, Sacramento State won five singles and five doubles matches for a total of 10 victories in their toughest tournament of the year. A full list of Sacramento State's results is available below.
