SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After capping her senior season with a team-best 16-6 record, including a 9-2 Big Sky Conference singles record, Ana Loaiza Esquivias was named to the Big Sky First Team All-Conference, the league announced Friday.
A senior, the selection is Ana's third career Big Sky First Team selection. Her first selection came after her dominant sophomore season, during which she went 16-6 in singles play, including a perfect 11-0 in conference competition. Her second selection came after her junior season in which she won a career-best 17 singles matches.
Although the Hornets finished 10-11 overall in her senior season, Ana was a major factor in the team's 9-2 showing against Big Sky opponents. For the second straight season, she played every one of her singles matches in the number one position.
The Mazatlan, Mexico native won in straight sets in 12 of her 16 victories and was a 6-1 overall when playing at home. She also had two separate five-match win streaks, tied for the longest on the team this season.
A seven-time Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week, a three-time Big Sky First Team All-Conference, a three-time Big Sky All-Academic, and a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete, Ana Loaiza Esquivias concluded her Sacramento State career with a win at home against Portland State on April 22. She finishes her Hornets career with a 67-26 overall singles record and an incredible 39-5 record in singles competition against Big Sky Conference opponents.
