MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's swept doubles and won three singles matches in straight sets for a 4-0 win over Sacramento State on Sunday.
Sacramento State (6-10) had played two matches on Saturday, winning both, before traveling down to Moraga on Sunday. Saint Mary's leveled its season record at 5-5.
The Gaels won at all three doubles spots with matching 6-1 scores in each, claiming the first point of the match.
In singles Hornet redshirt freshman Louisa Brunetti had to retire due to injury after the first set at the No. 6 spot. Jana McCord followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 and the Gaels clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory from Kareena Manji at No. 4.
Sacramento State freshman Sofia Gulnova took the first set, 6-1, at No. 5 and was headed to a third set when the match was stopped. Redshirt freshman Carolina Chernyetsky won six games at No. 3 before play was halted.
The Hornets are back home for a Big Sky doubleheader against Northern Colorado and North Dakota on campus on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
