SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sacramento State continued its strong play in doubles by sweeping three matches, but the Hornets claimed just one of six singles matches in a 5-2 loss Wednesday afternoon in Santa Barbara. Sacramento State (7-9) had its three-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 0-5 in away matches this season while UC Santa Barbara improved to 5-13.

The Hornets earned the first point of the match with a doubles sweep, led by an 8-0 whitewash at No. 2 from senior Katharina Knoebl and sophomore Daria Savchenko. Freshmen Deimante Bulatovaite and Alina Soltanici earned an 8-4 win at No. 3 while the duo of senior Sophie Lohscheidt and sophomore Olivia Boija earned their seventh straight win at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (3).

Savchenko opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 win over UCSB freshman Kaiulani Boyer at No. 2 to improve to 7-5 in singles play this season. At No. 5, Knoebl battled Gaucho junior Stacy Yam into a third set but was outlasted 6-0, 2-6, 6-5. UC Santa Barbara won in straight sets in the four other singles matches, though Lohscheidt lost by just a 6-4, 7-5 margin at No. 3 against Jaimee Gilbertson.

Sacramento State plays another non-conference match at 2 p.m. Thursday at No. 56 Long Beach State.
