OGDEN, Utah – Sacramento State sophomore Olivia Boija has earned Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. She shared the award with Montana junior Sasha Carter.
Boija, from Stockholm, Sweden, earned the Big Sky weekly honor for the second time this season after going 3-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles last week to lead Sacramento State to wins over Eastern Washington, Portland State, and UMBC.
She played at No. 3 singles against Portland State and Eastern Washington and had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Erin Blessing of EWU and a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sabina-Elena Preda of PSU. She played at No. 4 against UMBC and won 6-3, 6-1 over Madlena Kurasz and was leading 6-4, 5-3 at No. 5 against UT Arlington but that match went unfinished.
In each of the four Hornet matches last week Boija played with senior Sophie Lohscheidt at No. 1 doubles. The pair won 8-1 against UT Arlington, 8-2 against Eastern Washington, and 8-6 against Portland State. The duo was also leading 7-2 at No. 1 against UMBC when the doubles point was clinched.
Boija is 11-1 this season in singles and has won seven consecutive matches. In doubles she and Lohscheidt are 9-4, including a 7-2 record at No. 1, and have won six straight. She is undefeated in both singles and doubles play in Big Sky matches.
