TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 73 Arizona swept through doubles and earned straight-set wins at the top three singles positions to secure a 4-0 win on Saturday in Tucson. Singles matches at No. 4, 5 and 6 were not completed.
In doubles the Hornets (0-4) came closest at No. 2, where the duo of sophomore Olivia Boija and senior Sophie Lohscheidt took a narrow 6-4 loss. The Wildcats (7-0) had 6-1 wins at No. 1 and 3 to earn the first point of the match.
Hornet sophomore Jennifer Nguyen forced a third set at No. 1 singles against No. 114 Lacey Smyth but ultimately fell 6-1, 4-6, 10-6. That victory clinched the match for Arizona, which earned straight set victories at the No. 2 and 3 spots.
Sacramento State fared well in the other singles matches but none were completed. Sophomore Daria Savchenko and Arizona's Shayne Austin were playing a third set when the match was stopped, while Boija and Lohscheidt were each ahead in the second sets of their matches when the Wildcats clinched the victory.
